This is a quick post for the Hoyal families, so you know who we are, and how we're all related! I am Auburn (maiden- Couvrette) Ray and am the oldest child of Don and Keri Gaye (maiden- Hoyal) Couvrette. My mother Keri (known to most of the older generations as Keri Gaye), is the oldest child of David Donald Hoyal- who is the fourth child of James & Winona. I am excited to see some of the younger generations blogs, but admittedly, I'm not the best at keeping up on mine ;). I love the new Hoyal website, and feel blessed to be in the Hoyal lineage...it's great that this can be a way for families to connect, no matter where we all live.

Taco Sunday
Just a quick post, I am so short on time these days! I am enjoying being home with the kids this summer, and it is seriously flying by. We are all doing well, I try to plan an outdoor outing everyday just so we can take advantage of this beautiful weather and get to know this new area. We've explored many spots along the huge Rogue River, gone on bike rides and hikes, gone to several parks in the area, etc., etc. We all love it here, and feel so grateful to live in a place where it is so beautiful with nearly perfect weather.
The practice is going amazingly well, better than we expected. We opened almost 5 months ago (which is a very short time),and it's safe to say, we have a successful business. It is humbling to realize what a wonderful life we have. Dave is a great chiropractor and has increased his patient base quickly. He is his own boss, works less than 40 hours a week, and gets to spend a lot of time with the family. After so many years of an "up-hill climb", we are now reaping the rewards of our hard work, sacrifice, and perseverence. Life is good...

So, we have been loving living in Southern Oregon! The weather is CRAZY better than Washington!!! I still wake up expecting rain everyday, because it seems unreal to me still. The hills and trees are beautiful and we are so excited to raise our family here. The business has been doing great and we've been expanding faster than we can keep up with. Dave is a great doctor and most of our patients have been from referrals, which is amazing because we've only been open 7 weeks! We hired a massage therapist and will soon be hiring other office staff because it's already too busy for me to manage the office & be a mom at the same time. It's crazy that so many years ago when Dave & I first started school that we talked about him being a doctor & owning his own clinic, and I would go to school for business management to manage the practice...and after all those years we are doing what we planned! It's such an awesome feeling to be your own boss & be calling all the shots, and Dave has truly earned it. Besides business, we have been taking advantage of the beautiful weather and taking the kids to parks and barbequeing, etc. Until next time...

Hello Again
It's been over a year since I've updated our blog & I was recently inspired to get back to it. I like the idea of having a family "journal" but I've never been into scrapbooking, I'm just way too busy. Blogging, however, can be done so quickly!
There's probably been too much that's happened since the last time I blogged. I will try to summarize...
Dave has been cancer-free since his chemotherapy treatments. Whew...what a relief. I still have a hard time talking about it, it's still very recent to me, and I felt very alone and isolated throughout the process. It was definitely a rough spot in our marriage because it didn't last long enough for Dave or myself to adjust to how our life was during that time. Dave was very sick off and on and was a different person in many ways. And since I was pregnant during it, my emotions were ten times what they would normally be, and most people's attempts to be supportive were less than adequate. But, as quickly as it began, it was over. We are SO thankful for all the prayers from friends and family members, and from those who we don't even know. It means the world to us.
On to lighter subjects! In April of 2010 we had Ronin!! It went so smooth and quick and was just as amazing as the birth of our other three kids. I have to give a shout-out to my brother Skye who dropped everything and drove up to stay with us for several days to help me out right after. I needed it!!! Having a fourth really knocked me for a loop. I felt like I'd been hit by a truck for at least six weeks after, and it took me several months to get back into a routine. It was stressful and beautiful at the same time. Of course, our whole family has been in love with Ronin since he arrived. Bodi still gives him a hundred hugs and kisses a day, and he's nearly one year old now.
Indy, Landon, and Bodi are just growing too fast. I think about it constantly. I want to do everything right for them. I love to read books & scriptures & stuff on the internet to learn better ways to communicate/parent/prepare my kids to go out into the world. It amazes me how many parents just fly by the seat of their pants when raising children. You can't have a profession without studying how to do it, and parenting is a much more important job than any profession out there, so why wouldn't you educate yourself?! Admittedly, I am a perfectionist about it, and I have to remind myself to let some things go every now and then. They are just so precious and wonderful to me, and much of the time they are teaching me to be a better person.
At present, we are preparing to move for a job change. It has the possibility to still fall through, but we are hoping to be able to make this next big step in owning our own chiropractic practice. I love that Dave is not affraid to move forward, even if the outcome is unknown. He wouldn't undertake anything too risky since our family is so big now, but he has the ability to step out of a "comfortable box" and grow! He will be an amazing mentor to someone, someday. Of course, I play a supportive (and tolerant) part in that too ;)...anyone who knew Dave when I first met him knows what I'm talking about. The move will be bitter-sweet, especially for me, because I have to leave my best girlfriends...I LOVE you guys!! It's ok, though, I will see you often, when we visit.

CATCH UP TIME!!!
Okay, then. I'm not usually this bad about keeping up on the blog, so I'll try to get caught up here. Since my last post a LOT has happened!! Over the summer we did a lot of hiking & going to the lake, etc. We had a lot of fun & the summer was beautiful here. In September Indy & Landon started school & Dave & I celebrated our 11 year anniversary (13 years together total!). Indy turned 11 & Bodi turned 3 in October. Also in September we found out that Dave has stage 4 Lymphoma (as most of you know). The same week we found that out, we found out we are expecting baby #4! Wow, was that a rollercoaster week! Dave is doing pretty good & he is still able to work. Luckily his job has been flexible & he is able to rest when he needs to for the most part. Since he started practicing as a chiropractor in January, business has been slowly picking up, even through his cancer treatments! He is a wonderful chiropractor & his patients really like him. He has a couple months left of treatment & we are hopeful that he will be cured. Interestingly, through our trials, we have also received many blessings- we'll have a new baby in April (which truly is a blessing because we were trying to add to our family for a while but thought we had to postpone it when we found out about the cancer); we bought a new car; and we're getting ready to close on our first home!! It's been a whirlwind lately, but those of you who know us well, know that we are positive and strong. Love you all!!

4th of July
Went to stay with some friends in a cabin over the weekend. We went swimming at the clubhouse pool, the kids went tubing/rafting down a river and went for rides in the Kubota, played video games (I know, we really roughed it), and we saw a fireworks show. It was lots of fun!!

Well, since moving I haven't been very good about keeping up on the blog. Here's what we've been up to in a nutshell: camping, gardening, swimming lessons, piano lessons, going to the lake, reading, etc., etc. We're loving our new home, but we didn't forget about our old one. Graduation Day
Here's Dave getting ready for the big day. This day has been a long time in the making. Dave & I started our schooling way back in 1998 when I was pregnant with Indy. We'd take a couple of classes here & there (in between working & raising our family). In 2003 we both started school full-time & as Dave's schedule got busier & our family grew, I slowly phased out of being a student. So here we are in 2008 & Dave is finally done. I'm so proud of him!
Here they were announcing the graduates one by one as they entered on the stage to take their seat for the commencement.
Dave receiving his certificate/diploma & shaking hands with the president of the school. The pic below this shows his robe, hood, cap, & gown. The history of the robe & hood dates back to the Middle Ages & were worn by scholars. The colors indicate the school where the degree was earned. Depending what doctorate degree you earn determines what the design is on the robe & sleeves.

A Good Witch, a Samurai, and Ironman
For Halloween the kids were dressed as a good witch, a samurai, and ironman. They did the typical school parties & then we went to a "trunk-or-treat" in the evening (it's where people we know get together & decorate the trunks of their cars & hand out candy to the kids- it's so much safer than going door to door). They had a blast. And yes, I have a blast dressing them up too. One of the treats they got was a little bag that included a toothbrush & toothpaste (apparently from a dentist). I told Dave he could hand out little rubbery skeletons or spines that have his name & his practice name on them. Okay, okay, that was really his idea.

Double Digits
I can't believe my little girl is 10 already. Her birthday celebrations were spread out over a few days. She chose chili dogs & chocolate cake for her birthday dinner & dessert- which we did over the weekend so that more family members could be around & because we had more time. A few days later was her real birthday so we had pizza & went to a park (it was a school day, so there wasn't much time to do the big celebration). Her presents have still been trickling in through the mail too. What could be better than a week-long birthday celebration?!
